A Concept of Adaptability and Efficiency
Soek Arquitetura envisioned the Praia JK sand sports complex as a testament to adaptability and efficiency, strategically located on a vacant lot along one of São Paulo’s bustling avenues. Designed to occupy the site temporarily yet indefinitely, the project embraced pre-fabricated and modular solutions, ensuring swift assembly and future dismantling when necessary.
Integration of Functionality and Aesthetics
The complex predominantly features sand courts, with additional facilities integrated within an orthogonal grid of white-painted metal beams and pillars. This structural framework houses essential amenities such as changing rooms, storage spaces, administrative offices, and dining areas. Four enclosed boxes within the grid serve as focal points for specific programs, utilizing pre-fabricated wooden panels that align with the project’s modularity.
Passive Sun Control and Environmental Sensitivity
Incorporating passive sun control measures, the architects installed perforated wavy screen panels and linear brises to filter direct sunlight, ensuring optimal comfort for occupants. These systems, strategically positioned on the north and east facades, exemplify the project’s commitment to environmental sensitivity and user well-being.
Harmonizing with Nature
Drawing inspiration from organic elements, the choice of materials and finishes reflects the surrounding environment. Exposed aggregate flooring mirrors the texture of the sand courts, while the use of wood evokes the nearby vegetation, introducing a sense of natural warmth amidst the urban landscape. The white structural framework serves as a neutral backdrop, allowing the materials and vegetation to take center stage.
Vertical Integration of Greenery
Vegetation plays a vital role in softening the industrial aesthetic of the complex. Voids within the upper-level floor allow greenery to permeate the structural grid, blurring the boundaries between indoors and outdoors. Vedelias, xanadus, and philodendrons adorn the perimeter, creating a lush oasis that contrasts with the project’s modular design language.
Conclusion: A Vision for Flexibility and Harmony
The Praia JK Sports Complex embodies a vision of adaptability and harmony, seamlessly blending functionality with aesthetics and nature with architecture. As a temporary installation with indefinite potential, it stands as a testament to the power of innovative design in shaping dynamic urban environments. With its efficient construction systems and sensitivity to the surrounding context, the complex serves as a vibrant hub for sports enthusiasts while fostering a deeper connection with the natural world.
