Building Community: The Athletes Village Project by DREAM

A Vision for Urban Renewal

Architect Dominique Perrault’s vision for sector E of the Paris metropolis marks a significant step in the city’s urban renewal. Named “Les Belvédères,” this residential district, situated between the Cité du Cinéma and the Vieux Saint-Ouen, embodies a blend of modernity and heritage, housing over a fifth of the Village’s 2,500 homes across nineteen new buildings.

Sustainable Design for the Future

At the heart of Perrault’s design is a commitment to sustainability and adaptability. The buildings feature a post-and-beam structure, facilitating future transformations to convert the Athletes’ Village into a vibrant neighborhood. With ground-floor spaces dedicated to local businesses and artisans, the development aims to integrate seamlessly into the fabric of the Vieux Saint-Ouen community.

Legacy Beyond the Games

Beyond its role as accommodation for athletes and para-athletes, the project seeks to leave a lasting legacy for the Saint-Denis, Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine, and L’Île-Saint-Denis regions. DREAM, responsible for constructing office space and a rooftop sports facility, envisions a future where the district becomes a hub for both sporting and commercial activities, enhancing the quality of life for residents long after the event concludes.

Elevating Urbanity Through Sport

DREAM’s innovative approach to urban development emphasizes the role of sports in fostering social cohesion and well-being. By integrating a basketball facility into the office complex, the project not only promotes physical activity but also creates opportunities for community engagement and interaction.

Collaboration and Sustainability

The project’s success is a testament to collaborative efforts, with Nexity, Eiffage Immobilier, and CDC Habitat joining forces to ensure its realization. Embracing principles of environmental responsibility, the development incorporates sustainable construction methods, low-carbon materials, and energy-efficient design strategies, setting a new standard for future urban projects.

Fostering Social Connection

Central to DREAM’s design philosophy is the creation of spaces that encourage social interaction and connectivity. From ground-floor Food Courts to rooftop gyms accessible to all residents, the architecture prioritizes community engagement, fostering a sense of belonging and shared identity among residents.

Harmonizing with Nature

Embedded within the urban fabric is a commitment to green spaces and natural light. A central garden area serves as an oasis of tranquility, while innovative construction methods ensure optimal daylighting and ventilation throughout the buildings, enhancing comfort and well-being for occupants.

A Beacon of Innovation

The Athletes Village project by DREAM represents a beacon of innovation in urban development, combining architectural excellence with social responsibility and environmental stewardship. As Paris prepares to host the world’s athletes, it also lays the groundwork for a sustainable and inclusive future for its residents.
