Hartland Estate, crafted by Studio Jencquel, is a private sanctuary nestled into the lush slopes of Ubud’s picturesque Sayan Ridge. Set against a backdrop of sprawling rice paddies and the meandering Ayung River, this expansive estate spans approximately 6,200 square meters, offering a tranquil retreat amidst nature’s bounty.
Design Inspiration
Collaborating with architect Yew Kuan Cheong, Maximilian Jencquel envisioned a luxurious tropical residence infused with the vernacular charm of Linda Garland’s architectural style and the understated elegance of Axel Vervoordt’s “Wabi” spirit. The site plan, characterized by its organic flow, features five bungalows seamlessly integrated into the natural landscape, with reclaimed Javanese houses serving as the primary building components.
Sustainability and Harmony
At its core, the Hartland Estate is conceived as an ecologically sustainable masterpiece, harmoniously coexisting with its lush surroundings. Embracing a commitment to sustainability, locally sourced materials such as buried Javanese teak, bamboo, and stones from Sumba were prioritized, reflecting both the client’s ethos and Maximilian Jencquel’s vision. Even the organic vegetables cultivated in the garden are meticulously woven into the estate’s holistic conception.
Elegance and Comfort
The interiors of the estate exude an air of refined elegance intertwined with laid-back comfort. The master suite, sprawling over 150 square meters, offers a serene retreat adorned with the owner’s private collection of textiles sourced from various Indonesian villages. Artwork, including paintings by artist Filippo Sciascia, adorns the walls, adding depth and character to the living spaces. A focal point of relaxation, the expansive saltwater swimming pool features an infinity edge that follows the natural contours of the land, forming a graceful 26-meter-long s-curve.
Conclusion
Hartland Estate stands as a testament to Studio Jencquel’s artistry and dedication to crafting exceptional living spaces that seamlessly blend luxury with sustainability. From its organic architecture to its curated interiors, every aspect of the estate reflects a deep reverence for nature and a commitment to creating a harmonious sanctuary where inhabitants can reconnect with the beauty of the natural world.
