Situated on the outskirts of Baroda near the village of Aampad, the Sitish Parikh Farmhouse by Dipen Gada and Associates is a testament to harmonizing architecture with its natural surroundings. Nestled within an existing orchard, this farmhouse embodies a blend of simplicity and elegance, offering a tranquil retreat amidst lush greenery.
Client Collaboration
Commissioned by a prominent developer in the city, the farmhouse was envisioned as a second home where the clients could unwind and reconnect with nature. With complete trust in the architects’ creativity, the client provided the freedom to translate their vision into reality, resulting in a residence that seamlessly integrates with its idyllic setting.
Plot Layout and Design Challenges
Spanning approximately 43,600 square feet, the plot presented a unique opportunity to design a single-floor dwelling that respects the rural charm of countryside houses. The architects opted for materials like bricks, sloping roofs, and Mangalore tiles to imbue the farmhouse with a rustic character. Embracing the greenery surrounding the site, the house follows an ‘L-shape’ plan, dividing public and private spaces while ensuring a constant connection with the outdoors.
Exterior and Interior Integration
The exterior design features dynamic perforated screens and courtyards that animate the spill-out spaces with playful shadows, creating an inward-outward dialogue with nature. Upon arrival, visitors are greeted by a tall concave wall resembling a gorgeous brick jali, setting the stage for an immersive experience. The interiors exude a sense of serenity with abundant white tones complemented by indigenous materials like cane, lime plaster, and terrazzo. Each space boasts semi-covered courtyards and ambulatories, blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor living.
