Located in the San Fernando neighborhood of Bogotá, Colombia, the Blinsecurity Armor Factory, designed by Linnk Proyectos, stands as a testament to innovation in automotive armor production. This project was born out of the necessity to expand and streamline the production line for automotive armor, reflecting the commitment of Blinsecurity to excellence in their field.
Architectural Requirements
The architectural brief for the project outlined four primary requirements:
- A spacious area for assembling armor for 35 vehicles.
- A workshop capable of accommodating maintenance for 50 vehicles, including mechanical work and painting.
- An administrative building with capacity for 45 employees, encompassing both management and operational roles.
- A facade design that ensures privacy and conceals the activities within the facility.
Design Concept
Situated in a mixed-use area dominated by small and medium-sized companies in the automotive sector, the Blinsecurity Armor Factory integrates seamlessly with its surroundings while maintaining privacy. The building’s design features a large concrete mass punctuated by voids, allowing for an interplay between interior and exterior spaces. This strategy not only creates a visual connection with the surrounding landscape but also promotes ventilation and natural light throughout the workspace.
Spatial Innovation
The project aimed to create a work environment that transcends the conventional industrial setting, fostering a sense of ownership and flexibility among employees. In addition to meeting functional requirements, the design incorporates multipurpose spaces for recreational activities and meetings, enhancing the overall user experience. These areas, such as the sports facility and dining terrace, provide employees with opportunities for relaxation and social interaction.
Structural Approach and Materiality
The structural design prioritizes freedom of movement within the building, with a metallic roof structure supporting expansive workshop areas. Concrete, steel, and glass form the primary materials palette, creating contrasts and visual interest. Steel not only serves as a finishing material but also functions structurally, enabling a flexible floor plan. Glass elements introduce transparency and visual connectivity, allowing users to engage with the space effectively.
Achieving Excellence
Following the completion of the plant and subsequent validation by international experts, the Blinsecurity Armor Factory has emerged as a leader in armor manufacturing in Latin America. Its physical infrastructure embodies a harmonious balance between productivity and spatial quality, underscoring the pivotal role of architecture in driving innovation and efficiency in industrial processes.
