Gradual Evolution
Termalija Family Wellness marks the culmination of a transformative journey at Terme Olimia spanning fifteen years. This project signifies the transition from a conventional health center built in the 1980s to a contemporary thermal spa. Unlike typical developments that result in incremental extensions, our approach focused on gradual evolution, responding to evolving needs without a predetermined plan, with each new addition thought to be the final one.
Harmonious Urbanism
Our renovation strategy for Terme Olimia aimed at enhancing urbanism with each new building. We strived to integrate new elements seamlessly into the natural surroundings, avoiding a cluttered appearance while fostering a deeper connection with nature.
Redefining Outdoor Spaces
Termalija Family Wellness occupies the site of the former winter covering of the outdoor pool. The previous covering, complex to retract, detracted from the guests’ experience and contrasted sharply with the rest of the complex. To address this, we proposed a new facility that blends harmoniously with the natural landscape and eliminates the disparity in service levels.
Integrating Structural Scale
Unlike previous projects that could be nestled into the terrain, Termalija Family Wellness required a larger structure due to its water surfaces. We designed a clustered roof structure inspired by vernacular buildings, maintaining a scale and form that complements the surroundings without overwhelming them.
Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Experience
The new roof design ensures static strength while allowing for a covered pool space that seamlessly transitions into an outdoor area during summer. Skylights and openable facade glass surfaces facilitate a seamless flow between interior and exterior spaces, preserving the outdoor experience while providing shelter from the elements.
Minimal Footprint, Maximum Experience
Despite its size, the new roof serves as a sunshade in summer without encroaching on valuable exterior spaces. This approach ensures that guests can enjoy both open and closed spaces throughout the year, enhancing their overall experience at Termalija Family Wellness.
