Introduction
Restaurante kOi, nestled within a hotel unit in Ponta Delgada, has been a culinary destination since 2004. However, over the years, the need for revitalization became apparent. Despite its connection to the hotel’s central courtyard, characterized by an oriental-inspired garden and a serene water feature inhabited by carp, kOi required a fresh perspective.
Bringing the Outdoors In
The project’s central idea stemmed from the restaurant’s strong relationship with the adjacent garden. The design aimed to blur the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces, embracing the garden’s essence within the restaurant. This approach emphasized spaciousness and luminosity, defining the ambiance of the space.
Interior Garden Concept
Restaurante kOi was transformed into an interior garden, seamlessly integrated with its outdoor counterpart. Vegetation cascades from the ceilings, echoing the natural greenery of the courtyard. Artificial lighting with scenic effects enhances the ambiance, while acoustic panels, shaped like carp, symbolize prosperity and fertility.
Flexible Dining Spaces
While maintaining an overarching sense of openness, the restaurant features distinct dining areas. Traditional tables cater to formal dining experiences, while cozy lounge areas provide a more relaxed atmosphere. This versatility allows the space to adapt to various mealtime preferences throughout the day.
Material Selection and Comfort
The choice of materials prioritized both elegance and durability, ensuring ease of maintenance without compromising comfort. Noble materials were selected to uphold the restaurant’s upscale ambiance while withstanding the demands of daily use.
Conclusion
The revitalization of Restaurante kOi represents a harmonious fusion of indoor and outdoor elements, breathing new life into this culinary establishment. By embracing the natural beauty of its surroundings and prioritizing flexibility and comfort, the redesigned space offers patrons a memorable dining experience that transcends traditional boundaries.
