Introduction
iCampus Munich, conceived for Rohde & Schwarz by RKW Architektur +, introduces the “House of Communication,” a trio of buildings (i5, i6, and i7) designed with an innovative approach focused on interior functionality and connectivity. The project, situated at Munich’s Ostbahnhof station, encompasses 39,000 m2, primarily housing the Serviceplan communications agency.
Abstract Task: Pioneering Collaboration
The project’s genesis was unconventional, with architects and clients embarking on a journey without a predetermined site or user. Led by Tanja Frink, the project manager, RKW Architektur + approached the task as an opportunity to shape the future of work collaboratively. Embracing diversity and communication as core principles, the team aimed to develop an ideal working environment.
Inside-Out Design Philosophy
An interior-centric design philosophy drove the project, with large atriums serving as communicative hubs within each building. The open-plan floors are seamlessly connected to these central spaces, fostering interaction and visual connections across all levels. The innovative concept also incorporates recessed meeting rooms and internal event venues to encourage encounters.
Iconic Façade: Merging Aesthetics and Functionality
