Hangzhou DEEP BLUE Office Building Reimagining Office Spaces

Introduction

The Hangzhou DEEP BLUE Office Building, situated in the Zijingang Science and Technology City of Hangzhou Chengxi Sci-tech Innovation Corridor, represents a new approach to office architecture. Designed by GLA Design, this building serves not only as a workspace but also as a cultural hub, fostering social interaction, entertainment, and learning.

Design Concept: CREATE “X”

The design concept of the DEEP BLUE Office Building revolves around the idea of creating a space that balances privacy with openness. By incorporating an X-shaped architectural form, the building maximizes natural lighting, ventilation, and landscape integration. This approach enhances communication and sharing while maintaining the independence of individual office spaces.

Sustainability Strategy

The building’s sustainability strategy focuses on environmental and social aspects. By strategically positioning openings to enhance natural ventilation and incorporating river landscapes into the interior, the building connects occupants with nature. Additionally, the modular office system allows for flexible internal space, promoting adaptability and efficiency.

Modular System

The office units are designed using three types of modules, each offering variable internal space. These modules are combined to form the X-shaped structure, creating a unique and clean facade. The design emphasizes simplicity and unity while maximizing functionality and aesthetic appeal.

Art of Overhanging

Achieving the X-shaped building form posed structural challenges, including a significant cantilever. Through innovative structural solutions, such as steel trusses and composite shear walls, the design team realized the architectural vision while ensuring safety and cost-effectiveness.

Material Selection

Materials play a crucial role in achieving the building’s architectural vision. Anodized aluminum plates and ultra-white glass provide efficient thermal insulation and energy-saving features while maintaining a transparent and unified facade. The selection of materials reflects the building’s commitment to both functionality and aesthetics.

Epilogue

The Hangzhou DEEP BLUE Office Building represents a paradigm shift in office architecture, blending functionality, sustainability, and innovation. As a symbol of design ingenuity and spatial acuity, it serves as a model for future incubator office buildings, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in modern workspace design.
