Crafting a Boundary-Pushing Experience

Blending Physical and Digital Realms

The MATE Flagship Store, designed by Spacon & X, transcends the boundaries between physical and digital realms, offering customers a truly immersive experience. Beyond creating a conventional retail space, Spacon & X have ingeniously integrated a virtual dimension, allowing customers to delve deeper into the imaginative universe of MATE.

A Virtual Journey Through Imagination

Central to this concept is the use of a 180-degree panoramic screen, where customers can mount a physical MATE bike while exploring a diverse range of virtual worlds. From serene snowy mountains to underwater ruins and burning cityscapes, visitors embark on a psychedelic trip, immersing themselves in a surreal journey beyond the confines of the retail environment.

Redefining Physical Retail Space

Svend Jacob Pedersen, Designer and Co-founder of Spacon & X, highlights the shift in brands and consumers’ expectations of physical retail spaces. Instead of focusing solely on sales per square meter, the emphasis is now on creating memorable experiences. The MATE Flagship Store exemplifies this shift, offering customers the opportunity to try MATE bikes within abstract digital architectural settings, customize their own bikes, and even experience artist residencies.

Multi-Sensory Experience

Located at Landemærket 29, the store seamlessly combines retail and experiential zones, delineated by a crisp line. The retail space features custom-made modular shelving systems, illuminated by reflective steel floors. In contrast, the black space immerses visitors in a world of hot flavors, with Mars-like rock formations, neon tubes, and outlandish flowers, creating a magical ambiance.

Fusion of Tradition and Innovation

The assembly zone serves as a collaborative space, characterized by honest yet powerful design elements. Stainless steel furniture, inspired by Scandinavian tradition, blends seamlessly with clean, simple forms and ambient lighting. Backlit with polycarbonate and neon tubes, the space exudes a nightclub-like atmosphere, embodying the essence of Scandinavian 2.0—where innovation meets tradition in a harmonious fusion.
