Designing the GB65 Office and Library Space A Project by Metro Arquitetos Associados

Introduction: Commissioned Design

Metro Arquitetos Associados, under the leadership of partners Gustavo Cedroni and Martin Corullon, undertook the task of designing the office, library, and studio for art director Giovanni Bianco – GB65. Situated within the Jardins district of São Paulo, each space occupies approximately 140m2 on different floors of the same building.

Office Space: Modular Design

The GB65 office embodies a sense of spaciousness and connectivity, characterized by a modular rhythm facilitated by a large metal bookcase that serves to both occupy and organize the workspaces. Comprising sliding panels and mobile shelves, this versatile fixture provides adaptability for various activities within the workspace. The cohesive design is further emphasized by the uniformity of the hydraulic tile flooring throughout.

Library Space: Modular Wood Elements

Located on a separate floor, the library project was conceived from the combination of modular wooden components, enabling the creation of all furniture items such as shelves, tables, ceilings, and lamps. Employing a consistent system of solid wood knots and marine plywood panels, the design seamlessly integrates all elements of the art director’s library and studio.

Material Selection and Atmosphere

In both projects, the architects opted for a minimal palette of materials, anticipating that Giovanni’s work would infuse the space with vibrant colors and forms. A deliberate contrast in atmosphere was achieved between the office and the library by utilizing distinct structuring elements: steel for the office and wood for the library.

Functional Elegance in the Library

Addressing the challenge of housing a collection exceeding 8,000 items, the library design prioritized functionality without compromising aesthetics. A modular approach was adopted to accommodate varying dimensions, ensuring that the space remained visually appealing and light.

Conclusion: Harmonizing Form and Function

The GB65 office and library spaces exemplify Metro Arquitetos Associados’ commitment to innovative design solutions that harmonize form with function. By employing modular elements and strategic material choices, the architects have created dynamic environments tailored to the unique requirements of the client while fostering creativity and productivity.
